Design Phase: For me it was better to just start manufacturing the project instead of planning everything out. I really didn't do much designing other than creating the cylinders on inventor that I was going to use for the project. I had a picture of what I wanted to design in my head but instead of designing it on inventor, I just started building it. Once I had everything built it was easy for me to design it on inventor because all of the dimensions were done and I didn't have to change anything. If I had to do it over and change something it would be creating a design on inventor and then building the project off that design.
Manufacturing Phase: Since I didn't have the design on inventor of the project, I had to manufacture the project freely without any measurements. This obviously could've been avoided if I had a design planned out. However the project turned out exactly how I planned it to be. I didn't have many problems manufacturing the project other than re-cutting some pieces so that they would fit better. Some skills that are important to have during the manufacturing phase is problem solving skills, skills with power tools, and measurement skills. If I had to change something next time it would be to build a more challenging and complex project. I feel like the project we built is pretty basic and does everything that is asked in the rubric but nothing more.
Wiring Phase: Yes we completed out wiring, and during the wiring phase, I learned that in order to correctly wire the program, and to easily fix any problems that occur, it is important to stay organized. A way to stay organized is to make sure you label each wire in the terminal, so troubleshooting can go very easily. This helped quite a bit when air wasn't getting to some of our valves, when a button had stopped working, or when the light wouldn't turn on. Also label all the cylinders/valves with their outputs, which helps with troubleshooting along with making programming a lot easier.
Time Management: Yes we managed out time extremely well. We had successfully completed all parts of the summative (besides the finals report) with 7 classes left..
Programming: We successfully programmed our project with little help from our teacher. Everything worked how it was supposed to and we didn't encounter any problems. A lot of guess and check was needed when programming the automatic mode of the project.
Overall: Overall we really liked this project. We really enjoyed the whole process of creating the program from scratch, as well as how independent we were. We were allowed to find and solve the problems by ourselves for the most part, and being able to recognize and solve problems in a good skill.
